Hearty & Flavorful Burger Bowl

Welcome to my kitchen! Today, we’re embracing a wonderfully satisfying trend: the burger without the bun. This Burger Bowl recipe captures all the juicy, savory flavors of a classic cheeseburger, served over a bed of crisp, fresh greens. It’s a fantastic low-carb, gluten-free meal that doesn’t skimp on taste. The best part is its versatility; you can customize the toppings to your heart’s content. While I love the classic combination below, feel free to add anything from creamy avocado and crispy bacon to fried onions and pickled jalapeños. It’s a fun, healthy, and incredibly delicious way to enjoy a weeknight dinner.

A delicious and colorful burger bowl with a ground beef patty, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and a special sauce.

Ingredients

  • For the Burger Patties:
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil, for cooking
  • For the Special Sauce:
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup (sugar-free for low-carb)
  • 1 tbsp sweet pickle relish
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • For the Bowl Assembly:
  • 4 cups chopped romaine lettuce
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup dill pickle slices
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Special Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, ketchup, pickle relish, and white vinegar until smooth and well combined. Set aside in the refrigerator to allow the flavors to meld.
  2. Form the Patties: In a medium bowl, gently mix the ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper with your hands until just combined. Be careful not to overwork the meat. Form the mixture into four equal-sized patties.
  3. Cook the Patties: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. If using cheese, place a slice on top of each patty during the last minute of cooking and cover the pan to melt.
  4. Assemble the Bowls: While the patties are resting for a moment, prepare your bowls. Divide the chopped romaine lettuce evenly among four bowls. Top with the cherry tomatoes, sliced red onion, and dill pickles.
  5. Serve and Enjoy: Slice the cooked burger patties or leave them whole and place one on top of the salad in each bowl. Drizzle generously with the special sauce and serve immediately for a fresh, hearty meal.
